Episode27: Hip to be Square

• March 26th, 2012

GREETINGS, LEGION!

Due to a pretty hectic work schedule, I've had trouble getting together with the team for regular podcast recordings. HOWEVER; I remain dedicated to keep this thing going! With that in mind, I've managed to squeeze some free time out of my schedule to produce this solo effort.

This episode features an unboxing/review of the World War Robot Brillo Square, Mk.2.

In addition to that, I've included some background on the inspiration behind the design of the figure, Artist Andy Warhol.

The Warhol segment includes interviews & sound-clips snagged from around the web. I learned a lot putting it together, and I believe you will find it both entertaining and educational.

Square audio footage created by Legion member Anthony Carvalho

Interview clips taken from the 1987 Andy Warhol Documentary created by Kim Evans

Episode 26: Ladies Night

• February 11th, 2012

*Bunny & TQ pics by Samir Mrini

This episode, I'm pleased to present a discussion featuring 3 ladies of the threeA legion: Emma, Dolly, and threeA radio's Kimberley. The ladies and I touch on a number of topics, including the merits of 1/12 vs 1/6 scale figures, mint on card vs opened collecting, and the similarities & differences between how male and female legion members approach their threeA collecting.

We also talk about some upcoming threeA releases, including the Metal Gear Solid REX figure and the first female figure from the World War Robot line: the 1/6 scale Supreme Nom Commander.

There's also some discussion of the different Tomorrow Queen figures that have been released by threeA-

We start things off with Gimbat's News- A recap of some of the most recent happenings in the world of threeA.

We wrap things up with a review of the Mk.II square by Solodice.

An amazing community of fans has grown around threeA. Known as The threeA Legion, these men and women come from all walks of life, and from all across the globe.

At least every other episode, we at threeA radio will try to feature a Legionnaire on a segment called "ThreeA Legion Spotlight". This episode, we feature a cool Legion member who goes by the name tobor 2099.

This episode also features a recurring segment: Gimbat's News. This segment is a brief summary of some of the latest news in the world of threeA, painstakingly compiled by veteran threeA Legion member Gimbat.

Episode 24: Always have a plan-B

• January 25th, 2012

Always have a back-up plan.

After a two-hour podcast recording with the team, I sat back to review the audio.

But there was a problem: There was no audio.

When I realized this, I honestly came close to knocking my computer to the floor in frustration. TWO HOURS of Podcast-Gold, lost in the ether of the internet...

The topic of discussion (which will remain a secret for now) inspired some pretty animated discussion. Some inspired points were presented, and there were quite a few unplanned moments of humor. I'd like to try to record the session again in the near future...

In the meantime, I present episode 24 mk. 2.

Still full of the magic inspired by threeA, but different. This episode features the return of a segment that was a cornerstone of the podcast: Gimbat's News.

This episode also features some discussion of a number of upcoming threeA toys, including

the AP Zombs

The Mighty Square

AP Popbot

Harold The Fucktard

This episode also features a cool Member Spotlight segment featuring Legion member Knives, creator of the song we use for the close of each episode & webmaster of a new site called Rad Toy Review. Check it out here- Rad Toy Review

Episode23: ASSURGAM

• January 4th, 2012

ASSURGAM. Seeing the word featured on the Nightwatch Heavy Bramble led me to google it.  Turns out the phrase is identified with the US Army's  626th Brigade Support Battalion, and translates roughly as "We Rise Up".  Pretty cool, no?

Anyway, welcome to the 23rd episode of the threeA radio podcast!

This episode features an impromptu unboxing/review of my newest favorite WWRp 'Bot: The SDCC Exclusive WWRp Nightwatch Heavy Bramble.

Damn; I really, REALLY love this thing!

This episode also features the longest Legion Spotlight segment to date, courtesy of podcast team member Chasbrock. This time, we get to know a very cool Legion member who goes by the name  Gaijin665.  The first 6 minutes of audio are a little rough, but hang in there; it clears up quickly and the segment is both informative and entertaining.  The guys touch on some pretty cool stuff, including the stages of threeA addiction & the diversity of the Legion.

Episode breakdown:

threeA radio Holiday Special!

• December 21st, 2011

Season's Greetings, folks!

This episode, we present a little something to listen to while you're wrapping or unwrapping those presents. A little ear-candy to help make that road-trip a little more enjoyable. :-)

This episode doesn't follow the regular show format. Instead, the podcast team joins me in a little yearly tradition of mine: A viewing of an elusive and often overlooked holiday special from the late 70's:

Listen in as the podcast team gets together for an audio commentary & critique of this culturally important program, all for purely non-profit and educational purposes.

We take a look at the importance of family-

Good Friends-

And good music.

We'll briefly discuss the mixing of cultural icons from the time period-

And talk about the first appearance of a particularly noteworthy cultural icon.

Say; did I mention the singing?

NOTE:

This episode can be enjoyed on its own as an audio-only piece, but there's a video component as well.

If you want to listen to our commentary while watching the video, you can do so at the following super-secret link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Luce5a6P8o

At the link location, pause the video at the beginning, then hit "play" when you hear the *BEEP* in the podcast mp3.
